What are your favorite places you've visited? What's on your dream list?

Favorite

Ireland - beautiful country, amazing and friendly people, and delicious Guinness.

Germany - beautiful country, Oktoberfest is a blast, but people are hit or miss

San Francisco Bay Area - lots of great things to see

Dream

Galapagos Islands
Australia/New Zealand
Alaska
Antarctica

Bonus - least favorite

London - ignorant people, insanely expensive, horrible weather.

I love travelling. In fact, I travel a lot both for work and also for leisure.

However, 'favourite' is such an elastic word. Many of the places I found most fascinating and interesting to visit, would not necessarily be counted among my 'favourite' places or dream destinations, although they may well have offered extraordinary experiences and endless subsequent food for thought.

London, England
Stockholm, Sweden
Munich, Germany
San Francisco, California
Playa Del Carmen & Tulum, Mexico
Montreal, Canada
Budapest, Hungary
Kelowna, Canada
Austin, Texas
Las Vegas, Nevada

Dream
I have an insatiable desire to travel the world except for India, and Africa (except for certain parts such as Seychelles, Cape Verde, and South Africa). Other than that, I literally want to travel everywhere. In the interest of conversation, I will list my Top 5 destinations...

1. Thailand
2. Australia (Perth, Melbourne)
3. Maldives
4. Colombia
5. France

Least Favorite
Cancun, Mexico...because it's just a mini America, when I travel I want to be immersed in the local culture with the locals not stay in a Ritz-Carlton getting spa treatments....that's not travel.
Cabo San Lucas, Mexico...same reason as Cancun
Hamburg, Germany...because it doesn't have an identity like the rest of Europe. When you're in London, Prague, etc, you feel like you're in a different country / place, but not Hamburg.

My favorite is Egypt, though that might be surpassed by SA when I go there this summer.

I really don't have a least favorite so much but my least favorite city by a LONG shot is LA.

In a couple years I'll try to get work to send me to Alaska as it's the last place I've wanted to live but have not.

I'll probably retire in Mallorca or Ibiza.

Favourites:

Japan - Fascinating place, I'd love to back.
Iceland - Stunningly beautiful
Barcelona - Arty and awesome
Berlin - Fascinating contemporary history, lots going on and just a cool place generally.

Dream:

Vietnam and Cambodia
Faroe Islands
Patagonia

I want to go everywhere, twice.

Hi everyone,

Its nice to read all your views.

Dreaming doesn't cost you anything, so dream while its free to dream.

I'm dreaming to go to Palawan, Philippines. There you'll find the "underground river" voted as one of the NEW SEVEN WONDERS OF THE WORLD.
:)

Dream destination...

Would love go back to go to Southern Patagonia, specifically one area that I have not visited -- the Cordillera Darwin (Darwin Range) in SW Tierra del Fuego in Chile. You have to get there by boat and keep your fingers crossed for good weather, but apparently if you get it... absolutely spectacular scenery.

Shanghai, China
Paris, France
Turin, Italy
Istanbul, Turkey
Barcelona, Spain

Favorite

Hawai'i - I've been all over O'ahu and driven around Hawai'i itself spending time on both Hilo and Kona sides. I always feel relaxed and at home stepping off the plane. Really want to visit the other islands when I get the chance, but there are so many places on the mainland I want to visit as well.

London - So much history at your finger tips (literally at your finger tips).

Dream

So many places. My dream is to visit as many different places on the globe I can. Experiencing different cultures is something I enjoy. One high on my list is Japan.

Bonus - least favorite

None really. There is always something good to find in a place you visit. As much as I dislike LA; there are some great places to visit there.

The best: it would be probably Los Angeles or California . I have many friends that travel constantly and almost all agree that L.A. is the best destination when you factor everything in, unless you are looking for a specific thing like hunting (which probably be better in Africa).

Dream:
Probably Hawaii and Japan

Least favorite :

Any 3rd world country that has safety issues, low living standards, and not tourist friendly. Place like Congo, current day Iraq, and North Korea

asia ruined me and can ruin you too

Every trip I do I find my list of favorite places expands... Mostly traveled throughout Europe, North America and some middle east.

For favorites:

Namibia & Botswana - Currently my all time favorite area. Amazing people, such beautiful landscape, wildlife that makes you gasp and truly a place you can find your soul.

Egypt & Jordan- Hard to choose between the two. Both steeped in culture and history that spans millennia. Wonderful people and food and the diving is spectacular.

Amsterdam (and area) - Admittedly too touristy at times, but so much fun. It feels like a second home every time I'm there.

Scotland - Clean, beautiful, wonderful history, remote highlands and of course, scotch tasting.

Avignon - Such a pretty city to laze around in and drink too much wine while watching the world go by.

Banff & Jasper, Canada - I'm spoiled on this one as I live just a short road trip away. Make sure you get off the beaten path and away from the tourists. A hike in camping trip, or snowshoeing up a remote trail is a must.

For Least Favorite:

Cork, Ireland - In all fairness, I'm sure it is a wonderful place. It's my least favorite as we had a flat tire getting there, got lost finding the hotel and then wound up with food poisoning...

Dream destinations:

Right now, Puru, Chile and Argentina are on the top...

Favorites:

Countries - Spain and the Philippines
Honorable Mention: Japan, France, Italy

City - Madrid
Honorable Mention: Sydney, Rome, Paris, Seville, San Sebastian, Makati, Seoul, Montreal, Prague, Malaga, Lisbon, HongKong, Kyoto, Tokyo, London, Honolulu, San Francisco, Berlin

Islands - Tie: Tenerife, Boracay, Ibiza, Gran Canaria

Towns / Villages - Cinque Terre, Lake Como, La Orotava, San Cristobal La Laguna

Place - Overall Winner: Madrid, the happiest place on earth!

Dream: ABCs
Africa, Antartica, Argentina, Brazil, Cuba, Cape Town, China

Least Favorite: None

Favorite:

Paris
San Francisco
Napa/Sonoma
New York (well, I live there)
California central coast (down to Santa Barbara)

Dream:

Spain
French Polynesia (Tahiti, Bora Bora, Mo'orea, Huahine, Ra'iatea)
Australia
Rio de Janeiro

Favorite countries where I live;
  • Mexico
  • Japan; Osaka, Tokyo, and countryside of Kansai area
  • United States; California and Colorado

Dream to go;
  • Spain; attend an important match of Barcelona competing in Champions League
  • Netherlands and Denmark; want to use the bicycle as much as in Japan but in an European setting. Live near the rivers

Seoul, South Korea; On my first day I got lost on my way back and had a terrible experience with 9 out of 10 Koreans when asking for help using English. First time visit to KOR an first time people let me down and made me feel horrible.
