Problem is corp stores will say no most time if you try to use iPhone on prepaid even though you can that's why I just put another imie in system when I activated people's prepaid.

I use T-Mobile whenever I am in the States for the last 3 years now and it always worked great for me. The have a 2G plan where you only pay 2$ per day and for me that was always sufficient for maps, email and a bit of browsing.

You can just walk into a T-Mobile store and they should have the nano SIMs.

EDGE connection for Maps is a pain in the a$$.

Well, it certainly is not as a great experience as with 3G or 4G, I agree, but whenever I am in New York, it is sufficient to find my way around and to be honest, as a tourist I am not too bothered if I have to wait 1 or 5 (or even 10 seconds) before the map has loaded.

However, for just $3 a day, the first 200MB are 4G speed, so whoever needs faster internet, can get it for just one dollar more per day.

Yeah despite the 2G speeds, T-Mobile is your best bet. Depending on what store you go to they will give you the Nano Sim for only $10. At my local store they'll give you any sim that you request with your activation since you're paying for the activation kit and not the sim card technically. On the $2/day plan you just pay upfront for what you plan to use. So put about $10 on the account and you should be good for 5 days.

Since you're going to be in NYC, some parts of the city have been refarmed to support 3G on the iPhone already with T-Mobile.

I was in the US for about 2 weeks two Christmas ago and I used T-Mobile sim with my unlocked iPhone 4... they didn't have micro-sims yet, but they had a cutter and cut it down for me. At that time I did pay-as-you go for like $50 which came with 200mb or so, and then I ran out and paid the $2 a play. I think that is the best bet to be honest, I shouldn't have done the $50 plan to start. 2G isn't that bad, we used maps and it was our GPS for the trip and I also used Facebook, etc.
