Apple will be holding a virtual event today at 10 a.m. Pacific Time, and ahead of time, Taiwanese research firm TrendForce has outlined its last-minute expectations for iPhone 13 features and production of the devices.

In line with previously rumored features, TrendForce expects all four iPhone 13 models to be equipped with a faster A15 chip and sensor-shift image stabilization for the rear cameras. For the Pro and Pro Max models, the research firm said the devices will feature up to 1TB of storage, power efficient LTPO displays with support for up to a 120Hz refresh rate, and an upgraded Ultra Wide lens with the addition of autofocus.

In line with information shared by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, TrendForce added that the LiDAR Scanner will remain limited to the Pro models.

In view of the "lackluster sales performance" of the iPhone 12 mini, TrendForce said the iPhone 13 mini is expected to account for less than 10% of total iPhone 13 production, noting that Apple will focus its sales efforts on the larger models. Previous rumors have indicated that the iPhone 13 mini will be the last "mini" model that Apple offers, with the iPhone 14 lineup expected to consist of two 6.1-inch and two 6.7-inch models.

In addition to the iPhone 13, Apple is expected to unveil the Apple Watch Series 7 with a new flat-edge design and third-generation AirPods.

The iPhone mini will be rebranded as an iPhone SE in two years with upgraded internals. I'm guessing.
This makes a lot of sense. By the time the iPhone 14 and its in-display TouchID comes out the notch and FaceID will be old hat. It therefore makes sense to ditch the ye olde iPhone 6 chassis and move to the 12 Mini one at that £499 price point. The battery isn't quite as good as the 6.1" model but it is miles better than the current SE.

For all the talk of a "mini" iPhone, I was indifferent, until last week. For various reasons I had to temporarily move from my iPhone 11 Pro to my old, trusty 6S for two days. It was a revelation. Light, tactile and much more pocket friendly. I was actually saddened to move back to my 11. The bulk of it reminds me of the old brick phones of the 80's, such is the heft. If only they could pack the camera punch into a smaller device, I now know I would be all over it.

I wonder if the 13 Mini can add battery life, like rumors are stating, if that will help Mini sales at all.

But using the 12 Mini for a bit now, I can totally see how the majority of the population who consumes a ton on their phones would *not* like the experience as much, as it does tend to feel a bit squeezed and the default text size is a bit small. I absolutely love the size, but don't consume much media on my phone. Because of that, battery life has been acceptable to me as well. But in this day and age, I can see how that's a niche crowd for sure.

I like the idea of a smaller phone. I think many do, it sounds great on paper. Like you said though, definitely can see how niche it is once it’s in your hands. I think it would be a tiny bit less niche if the battery lasted longer. That’s all though.

I think another iPhone "mini" could still be a possibility down the line, once it can fold out to have twice the real estate - then you'd have the benefits of a small phone until you wanted the larger one.
