There was a post in another message board that said flash memory is very expensive right now, and this is probably the reason apple has not gone for the higher memory yet. But what happens if a few customers wanted to take apart their iphone and put more flash memory in? Is there a way to have more storage but keep the same amount of space, so everything could still fit?

it'll be soldered onto the main board, so unless they were damn good with a soldering iron, no, it wouldn't be possible.

I'm hoping that some 3rd party company like iPodResQ will be offering memory upgrades. I can't imagine that the flash drive would be soldered ontp the main board - that would make it pretty hard for Apple's techs to replace it. Even so, if it is soldered there is still a way to replace it and 3rd party companies are more reliable with a soldering gun than I am. I'm sure upgrading the iPhone will void the warranty but after AppleCare has run out who cares.

Oops. I knew there was something off there. 2.5" is a little too big.

Nope, you're out of luck there, the iPhone lacks a media slot, Apple has a history of keeping things minimalistic, and simple.

Are you ****ing kidding me? A $500 phone without a memory card slot? That's not minimalistic and simple! That's moronic....

    Wow.

A memory card slot opens the possibility of the user screwing something up -- Apple likes to keep it all contained within the software (that it designs) -- even at the expense of user expandibility.

What? How in god's name can you screw something up with a memory card? If I had to guess why Apple didn't include one, it would be the fact that you can get 8GB cards for less than $100 now
