I didn't mean to hurt your feelings to whomever that bought this. I just passed by after getting a different case for my iPad 2 and I saw some dinky looking rectangular device sitting on the kiosk stand next to a samsung galaxy tab and a cell phone. I thought to myself, this is another iPad knockoff? Low and behold it was the blackberry playbook.

I picked it up and immediately I noticed the back material was some sort of rubber - much like the ipad 1 apple designed case. But the entire device was small and rectangular. It was a like a huge car satnav. I picked it up and I didn't even know how to turn it on. It was at some contacts app screen and I wanted the web browser.

I looked for a home button and none to be found. I felt the top of the unit and I felt a button and pressed it it was volume up key. No go. Then I fiddled around more but still couldn't find out how the get to the browser. I tried pinching on the screen, nothing. I don't know how then I did it but I managed to get to the "desktop" by swiping something.

I started the web browser and loaded a page. This was all within about 30-40 seconds of rapidly figgiting with the damn thing. I was already turned off. Not to mention the smoothness of everything wasn't that bad, but if you have ever owned an iOS device, you know how fast and smooth and accurate it is. So obviously I had to compare and you know it just doesn't compare to an iOS device!

Overall, if I never owned an iPad, I would probably "think" about the blackberry playbook - because I would have no idea of how much awesomeness an iPad would be like. If I were that person, I'd probably already own a blackberry phone...so obviously I can't be pushed to something else.

If you have ever used an iPad extensively, you will never want to go to a playbook. Unless you want to go backwards in time. Nothing about the device is that "alluring" to me personally. I can think of 100 different ways to use the iPad and I was already fustrated with the playbook because it wasn't as intuitive as the iPad. Of course which I am basing my initial impression on!

bottom line - no way this thing will sell like how the iPad is selling. It's too small for my taste. Screen resolution is high density obviously with the screen size but other than that, the real estate on my ipad is way better than the high density smaller screen on the playbook. It's not like a retina display and overall I'm just not impressed. There's nothing it can do that the iPad can't - maybe except the blackberry phone to pad features which didn't even work because there was nothing to connect to! You would be out of your mind and have much disposable income to dispose of if you choose this gadget over an iPad. I know many will debate out it - but it's no contest. iPad 2 or iPad 1 wins. Ipad2 being king now.

People who buys these things will argue it's not suppose to be like an iPad - but that's the major problem with it - people want it to be like an iPad...hence you have all these "knock off" devices floating out on the market now.

the only part Im jealous of about the playbook is the blackberry integration. the ipad should of had this with the iphone since it was released.

Amen!!! Why can't I sync contacts and calendars from my iPhone to the iPad over Bluetooth? It would be great to update information in a meeting using a tablet and have it sync instantly and automatically to my smart phone.

I've been following the tablet competition since the original iPad, and my opinion is that the only competition the iPad 2 has is the Motorola Xoom. I'd say that a Nook with full Android on it would be comparable to an iPad 1, but the iPad 2 wins out over that.

I'd argue it's a matter of preference of iOS vs Android between the iPad 2 and the Xoom.

I bought a 32gb Playbook. Its a very nice small tablet. The thing does need some updates but I think that it works well. I wish Apple would do something better with there multitasking its awful in my opinion...and the ios is getting old. I always thought that flash had no place on a tablet...until I picked up a Playbook. Flash runs well on it. I love my iPad 2 but also my Playbook!!

I predict success

I love my iPad like I love my iPhone but I am attracted to the Playbook. There is something there. The OS is just stylish to me. I found it to be quite smooth and should get better. I dont feel the same about Android. Android's OS is a big cluttered mess I think and it's not smooth..

Last time I felt like this was when the Palm Pre came out. I wanted so much for my iphone to have the features like advanced Notification Manager and Stylish App switching. For Blackberry's sake I hope they don't end up the same like Palm.

In the end I do believe Blackberry ripped off HP Palm WebOS big time but they've actually made it better IMO. With BB's strength in enterprise they may succeed to be in the big 3 with this OS and Hardware after they fix everything. I think WebOS won't get the second chance they had hoped.

OP sounds like a troll, blackberry QNX on the playbook is a million times better than iOS. iOS is like using an old commodore computer compared to QNX. The app switching, multitasking, menus, etc... are LIGHT YEARS ahead of apple. It's all super fluid and smooth.

For OS's I would say QNX > Honeycomb > iOS. I think most reasonably non-fanboys can agree this is fact; HOWEVER the usefulness of the tablets would be iOS > honeycomb > QNX based on apps. I would rather have an iPad than any of the others, any day, because of the app library.

But I would much rather have either honeycomb or QNX if it had the same app library as apple. Hopefully iOS 5 stops being an antiquated piece of garbage.

Stop with the troll, I find the same thing with the playbook it's the worse out of tbun hatch at the moment.

QNX UI far ahead of others,
I can't understand how anyone objectively could think anything else?

How long will it take RIM to release a 4" smartphone and 10" tablet using it?
When it does Apple will have a true competitor.

Typical fanboys, or old men stuck in their ways.

QNX UI blows away iOS on EVERY level, there is not a single thing about iOS that can even compare.

As I said, if I could have iPad 2 hardware, with the iOS app store, and the QNX UI, I would be VERY happy.

What a non argument. I can do it too.

Typical fanboi, just old men stuck in the past. Can't understand the technical challenges and why a kernel isn't enough.

Well, on my iOS tablet I can read and send email, or manage my calendars without needing to go through my phone. I can play videos wirelessly to my TV and can listen to music wirelessly on my stereo system.
Can the playbook do that?

Pretty dang easy to set a bookmark for gmail or calender. Really is a non-issue.

I was thinking of getting an android tablet and return my ipad2 just to save sone money.... Unfortunately Order & Chaos Online was released and now I'm addicted. Sorry all you other tablet makers.. iOS wins again!

I actually bought a playbook on Friday and wanted to see what it can do within the 14 day return window. After playing with it over the weekend, I knew it's going back to bestbuy today. There are just too many things I don't like about it. In brief, it's primitive in every single way, and the device is designed just for blackberry users.

So the iPad is "dummed [sic] down" and a "toy" and a runs an OS that is a "million times worse" than the competition.

Honestly, how can you expect to be taken seriously when you use language that is literally false through exaggeration? If you wish to criticize the iPad and be taken seriously, use objectively true language. Otherwise you will get dismissed as emotional trolls.

No iOS device is intuitive to anyone who has never used one before. After playing with several android devices, and swapping between them and my Touch and iPad2 I yearn for the android back/home/menu buttons as a more efficient UI strategy. The single Home button is certainly simpler. It is also limited. Many android devices let the control buttons rotate with the screen. Always on the bottom no matter how the screen is rotated. I'm betting Apple will move to a capacative button on the bezel that can light-up/activate on any side that is down when you rotate your iDevice.

The number of children that are able to pick up an iPhone or iPad and immediately begin using it without any training or background would disagree with you.
