"Better" doesn't exist in a vacuum. The question is always: better for what?

The majority of people who complained about the Retina MacBook are the people who either want or have a MacBook Pro. And, the reason is they want the Retina MacBook to be an upgrade to the MacBook Pro. The issue is it is not. My point is those people assume that the Retina MacBook should be an upgrade for the MacBook Pro line of laptops but it is not. Therefore they are upset.

I totally disagree. Sure there are people comparing it to the pro simply b.c of the price, but no one expects it to be the pro. I do however expect it to perform at least as good as a macbook air.

Huh. Okay.

I went to the local Apple store today and messed around with one of their retina MacBooks. It felt cheap to me, like a netbook. It just didn't have that feeling I expect from a $1000+ Apple laptop. Maybe it was the keyboard... I definitely feel like the keyboard seemed like one of those bluetooth keyboards that you use with an iPad. The laptop itself just didn't feel like it had any substance to it though.

The keyboard feels different, to be sure, but the rMB does not feel "cheap" to me at all. The build quality is excellent, and there is no plastic at all on the body. Even the hinge is aluminum. The touchpad is great, too. There is no flex in the body, and the look is very sharp.

Yes, and completely irrationally...

I'm assuming you're joking that a 13" retina is a "beast" of a computer.

laptops have come so far from when they were truly "beastly." I remember when they were pretty damn thick and heavy - todays laptops are great.

I even use to travel with a 15" classic MBP and thought I was lucky to be traveling with something "thin and light."

The 13" retina fits well on a plane and I don't think anyone would ever call it physically a "beast" of a computer..

Yeah, when the Sony Diskman came out, people thought it was so thin and light. Everyone said nothing would ever be thinner and lighter, "heck, why would anyone want anything smaller? it already plays 15 songs in digital quality in a tiny machine!"

pretty sure those with a iPod shuffle disagree that a diskman is better.

The screen, yes. The performance, no.

Screen, keyboard, trackpad, dimensions, and weight are all better than the Air for me. Performance is not better than the Air, but the 1.3 is enough for my use case. As always, YMMV.

I can sort of understand the netbook reference since this thing is tiny but didn't feel or look cheap to me. It's a thing of beauty!

I would love to know the definition of a "netbook" which the haters love to keep throwing around... Netbooks were designed to send\receive email, run a full OS, surf the net (hence the name), do some word processing\spreadsheets, etc. Basically what 95% of "office professionals" do in their daily role at work.

So how is "netbook" a negative term? Salesforce says that over 50% of companies have migrated their Sales teams to a primarily iPad environment. I travel 2 weeks a year, and I can't tell you how many cheap-suited salesman I've seen pecking away at their iPad with the keyboard attached. The average business person doesn't need anything more than a netbook. This isn't 2002 anymore.

I'd bet that most of the people who complain that the Macbook doesn't handle video editing or photo shopping don't even work in a profession where that's part of their job.

Whiners be whiney.

You obviously aren't a member of BMW Rumors.

..... There's no need to use a product if you just spend enough time measurbating with product specs you find on the internet.

I've just killed my rMB after spitting coffee out all over the ****** keyboard ;)
