I'm trying to separate keynote tidbits from rumors in my mind. I thought there was a way to have your iPhone sync wirelessly without having to manually trigger it (it would start a sync whenever you plugged it into power, even if it wasn't your computer, just any power source) as long as you were on your wi-fi network.

    Is that right?

You either have to trigger it in the phone settings.app under general -> wifi sync or in iTunes. The only automatic thing that happens while charging / phone not in use / on wifi is iCloud backups.

    Sorry for the bad news.

I think they felt that it would be best to leave that trigger up the user since you may just be charging and then running out the door and iTunes sync can take a while depending...

Both my iPad 2 and iPhone synced to my computer without being triggered.
I cannot answer how or when it happens.

You know. I could be totally wrong on what I said earlier. There is a setting in itunes under Devices that says "Prevent iPhones, iPods and iPads from syncing automatically." Wonder if that has anything to do with it....

The exact thing you mentioned happened to me, running out the door and I see the little icon spinning. That is how I first realized it was happening. If it does it when I put it in the cradle at night to charge it should not be an issue. I do not want it starting every time I walk in the house!

Turn off that setting in iTunes (check the box like I had) and then just kick off a sync before you go to bed. Set yourself a reminder to do it every night.... Yeah not ideal but better than letting it choose.
