I have a late 2010 MBA and love the machine. It is very fast and I've been doing some reading about the flash drive. There is so much folklore around whether Trim is needed or not I thought I'd ask the experts.

Some say the SSD controller used in the MBA contains garbage collection features that make TRIM unnecessary. Various online tests that show the MBA SSD does not slow down over time with random/read seem to support this view.

That said, there continues to be a lot of discussion about how to enable TRIM in OSX which leads me to believe it might be helpful. There are threads about it being available in Lion which would seem to indicate Apple thinks it is needed.

So - TRIM needed or not?
