That cyclist was me...oh wait, that was 2 decades ago.

Nowadays, everyone is a youtuber, blogger, with SLR camera, helicopters and drones.
When I was in their age, i used to walk in the forest with my dog...

We often say this in regards to new things in a negative way, like walking in a forest with a dog is "better" than being a blogger or Youtuber. Older adults have been hurling epithets at the younger generation for...generations...declaring that what they did as kids for recreation was superior to what "kids do today." I hope I'm alive long enough to read, "In my day we sat inside playing video games connected to an International Community all day long and texted our friends instead of hanging out with them. We didn't hunt them down and kill them with thermal evaporators on drones like the kids do today..."

It does seem like Apple is now engaged in a yearly one-upmanship situation with these guys (“oh, you flew a drone to recreate the Catalina shot? This time you’ll need a chopper!”).

Next play: stratosphere.

You beat me to it! I was just about to add "would be great if apple got in on it, and made it more challenging / adventurous every year just to f**k with them".

This video seems like a behind the scenes featurette. Where are the actual photos compared to Apple's originals?

Reminds me of driving past the legendary Windows XP wallpaper place.

I have younger family members, none of them are that. Famous YouTubers are a tiny part of the population. As famous people, I prefer them over MTV stars or whatever was cool in the 80s-90s. They're self-made at least and can be very creative.

I'm gen Z. They're right. Sitting inside is bad, at the very least for physical and mental health. Our gen is the most depressed and obese statistically. Anecdotally, over-usage of phones ruined social life at school not only for those doing it but everyone.
It's just that vlogging isn't what "kids these days" do most of the time.

Agree, watched the first 20 seconds and it's all about 'me'. I guess that's what the world is about now with young 20 somethings.

If adventurers and artists had to be concerned with productivity, the world would lose the great wealth of work created by asking "why not?"

While I agree with the sentiment you've expressed, I don't know that it's particularly applicable here. They weren't really creating anything, just attempting to mimic someone else's already-existing photo.

On the other side, I find some humor seeing people arguing about the productivity of a YouTube celebrity.

Are we sure these aren’t just Samsung photographers?
Hopefully not. If they had been Samsung photographers, the desktop wallpapers would turn out all grainy. And tinted with oversaturated blue. ;)

The "why" is to get into the eye of the media just like they did with MacRumors.

I suspect there was a hidden incentive from MR.... maybe arn promised to send them each a free MBP leather laptop bag from Waterfield (premium stuff!). Plus a free case of White Claws. How could they refuse? 😁

No doubt Apple spent a lot of money to get this perfect shot at exactly the right time, but they also Photoshopped it a lot! The sea is all tranquil and there are a lot less rocks. While you could say that Apple probably shoot this picture during high tide, the water levels just don't add up! The left side is showing the about the same amount rocks in the water with exactly the same water level, but on the right side the rocks are all gone. It's also impossible to have the sea so tranquil with hardly any waves around the rocks.

Apple really have made THE impossible one in a million photograph, but it's fake! This goes far beyond a little touchups here and there and the usual exposure, white balans and lens corrections. This is what I would call deceitful manipulation and falsification of truth.

I bet this would be a tradition... a holiday every other year..

Besides, i think Apple would be insulted to learn about the "crack marketing team" gag
