I don't have an ibook or any laptop at all, but I would definately bring it. Just bring it as a carry on and play around with it on the plane!

Yup that was one of the main positives of taking it.

However do you think I will use 640MB in a week (Sydney)? Because I was thinking that I could then just transfer my photos onto my uncles comp when I get there, and burn them to disc, and from then on I'll beable to do it again if needed. (Trying to spend as little money as possible  Partly because I've only got little money  )

Heck, I would use 640MB in one afternoon's shooting session!

Seriously, you really need to get at least one more memory card. Trust me on this....
Yeh will do.
Just out of interest are there many (photo)shops in Sydney that will allow me to create a photo CD?
(But yes I will still get more memory  )

Yeah, you'll probably bump into a few. Of course, they're usually managed by ferocious kangaroos though. It's a bitch tryin' to negotiate a price when the 'roo is bouncing all over the place.

Haha, I'll bear that in mind

Yeah, there's about two or three thousand.

Just saw a story on the news about the official launch of the "bloody hell" ad campaign in the US. Now this was in San Francisco OK, a city I consider to be pretty well "with it" in terms of international knowledge and this one old guy whilst eating some pavlova couldn't believe that we "have the whipped cream like we have here (the US)" I could've slapped him. What does he think we use the kangaroos for?? Best way to whip cream in the known world.

PS, when you get here and if you're not a vegetarian, go to a good steak place like "I'm Angus" at King Street Wharf (opposite Darling Harbour) and have a kangaroo steak - they are just delicious.

Yeah, tryin' to catch those bastards really works up an appetite. I'll give you a hint: go for the eyes.

Thanks for all the advice soo far guys, especially you mad jew. The thought of going to Australia without your tips is not worth thinking about.

Yeh, I'll definately go and try some steak though, however I've just learnt I can buy it in a nearby French Market  Just don't ask me how/why/what/where . . .

Sounds interesting. And assure me, I'm not eating anything that moves on my plate.

You EAT the cute little kangaroos??!! Awwwwww.....how could you?!

What do you mean? There's more roos in this country than there are cows - they're at pest proportions in some rural areas. They're not endangered in any way, shape or form.

And you try telling me a 6 foot western red roo is "cute" when it's crouched down, baring it's teeth and growling at you, getting ready to sit back on it's tail, fire those long legs out at you and slit you from neck to...ahem...janglies. They've adapted marvelously to human arrival. When I was working in the Snowy Mountains in 2004 we were at the height of the current drought (thankfully drought doesn't equal a bad season) but beacause much of the national park was dry the roos were coming out of the bush and heading for family pools, family pools protected by dogs. Which the roos killed. With no trouble whatsoever.

Never actually had Emu. Croc's not bad though.
As for emu replacing turkey or lamb, nah, lamb still rules the roost. I loves me a good roast lamb.

Oh. *Gulp!* Maybe they're not so cute after all.... Well, they LOOK cute hopping around with their babies in their pouches!

Not-cute? Kinda like koala bears, huh? Always thought they were so cute and cuddly, too, and then I learned that they can be very vicious.

yummmmmm Emu.... (IMO better then kangaroo)

I forgot how expensive it is but in Sydney near the imax theater/ sydney aquarium is a resturnat ( i think its right next to the imax in the same building if its still their) Its called something like "Zen -Bu". , iIts an interesting resturant, i guess its Asian but the cool thing about it is that t hey have eastern sitting (make a reservation) where u sit on pillows on the floor and theirs a hole in the floor to put your legs in. Also this guy comes around gives a free massage :D

Also the aquarium is pretty cool to check out. Any chance of you getting a chance and go to the "reef"/Carnes (sp) ayers rock is cool, esp if you like to hike. Also bring home a didgeridoo

They can be vicious, in the 4 hours of the day they're not sleeping. And they are not bears. The next person to call them "Koala Bears" is getting a slap upside the head from me. They are a marsupial, a mammal that raises it's young in a pouch, like the kangaroo and the wombat. They are not a member of the bear family.

And the roos you see are the ones in zoos and stuff that are totally used to human contact. Mostly the wild ones are OK too but if you disturb them and you get one that doesn't feel like bouncing away they can put up a good fight.

Well, I think you should leave it at home and then concentrate on buying me some things from Australia.! (I like Kanagaroo's, dog's are annoying me).

Although I can see the appeal of having it on the plane for 24 hours, what happens if it runs out of battery?. Aren't the charging things only in first class?. Don't they give out GameBoy's these days?

Hmmm, buy a bigger memory card, use it, then come home and send it back? lol.

If you have a big enough suitcase, I'll come as well....

Edit.. your camera takes SD cards right??. I hope so anyway because I just found you some links to look for cheap memory for your camera.

Oh and I know Edward camera takes SD cards and he bought one recently when we went to Madrid, he might let you borrrowww it.

And how is this thread 'Mac Basics and help'?!

I was in New Zealand with my 12" PB. I didn't camp as much as I stayed in hostels and with rellies, but it was nice to have while designing a website for my cousin's house they are selling.

I agree with some here, don't take it. It'll be a pain carrying that extra weight. There will be plenty of internet cafes when you hit civilization again.

Good on you.

3.link another link
1.Yup it does take SD cards.
2.Well what else would it come under!?
3.Thanks, much appreciated, will probably buy the eBuyer one.

Thanks for the other comments people, I'm slowing beginning to decide not to take it . . .

Yes, this thread could have been in community discussion, but it's fine where it is now. The forum titles are only for a broad outline to keep things reasonably organised.
And yes, kangaroo is very nice. Bit like beef, but much much nicer depending how it's cooked. Probably the best meat for you in terms of protein and stuff too :)

Ahhh James! I didn't realise it was you the first time! Sorry!

Yeh I'm probably going to go with Ebuyer, but I'm waiting to decide how much I'm going to buy (512 or a gig), as I'm still not certain whether my brother is going to lend me his card. And I've just realised what you meant when you talked about Edward! But no, I wouldn't let him trust me with his card.

And I might just bring you back a little something

::20ROGERSC::

Right now I've found out that I won't beable to borrow a card as he will be using it, so I'm definately going to buy 1GB.

I've found this one at the moment . . .eBuyer: Viking 1GB Secure Digital Card . . . However it is out of stock and I'll want to order one in the next couple of days. Anyone know of other places to go for cheap memory? Thanks
