You can get cheapo versions from Hong Kong (via Ebay). That might be worth a look.

The one I bought off e-bay was for my 70-200 f/4 L and it's perfect even has black felt on the inside of the ring so it's not a metal to metal connection.

i'm working on fabricating one myself since that would be so cheap and pretty easy. i'll let y'all know how it goes
