Right, a 10 min Vid yacking about TRON is just a bit more than "supporting a free ap" Again no disrespect, although you...headsupftw, appear to be borderline trollish.

Not trying to troll at all. Again, if you think "a 10 min Vid yacking about TRON is just a bit more than "supporting a free ap" ", then don't use that free app. Simple as that. Nobody is forcing iAds down your throat. It's completely YOUR CHOICE.

Now if you can go beyond "ads are bad ergo iads are bad lalalalalala", I'd like to point out you don't have to watch the full 10 minutes at all, you can end the video clip at any point. As a matter of fact, you don't have to watch the video at all even when the TRON iAd is staring at you on your iPad. It's just a 66-pixel tall thin banner. You'd have to click on it for it to expand to full screen and play video content etc. etc.

THANK YOU: Spazzcat // BC 2009 //daddywags 214

You additions to this thread were very helpful.

seems like their comments were appropriate and honest. don't get anything trollish at all...although the tone of your posts sounds like you have no idea about the work to produce an app and just expect it to be free. can't figure out where you're coming from, although sarcasm hang in the air. pure and simple, don't use the free app, don't click on the ad...how difficult is that!

haven't heard first hand feedback from friends in cg, but it was a huge gamble to put totally untested feature director behind the wheel of a 170M vehicle *gulp* i think his background in architecture and graphics, plus his reel convinced them he could give it legs....only hope his story sensibility matches..it'd be fun to take a ride..my pops liked the original tron..a bit dated for my taste..but...let's see what's up!

Sounds uncool, no disrespect to you sharty, i just don't need ads.

You don't have to look at ads. Go and buy the full version and stop being cheap and download the free version and complain.

Developers also need to make money. It is your choice if you want to pay for the app and enjoy it ad free or if you get the free version (and still have the option to ignore the ads).

Honestly, I often click on the ads in support of the developer (that way I don't pay for it but make the big companies pay). Things changed a bit with iAds - I often click on them to enjoy them. But it is your choice how you support the developers (nothing is free in this world)

Who is forcing you to click on the ad? Just leave it alone if you dont want to see the content of it. It's not that it is forcing the 10 min in your face - you have to click on the ad to see it - and the good thing about iAd (compared to many AdMob ads) is that it doesn't yank you out of the app, you can at any time click the x and you are back in your app.

Tron most likely will suck. But there's no doubt the soundtrack is good :)

I'm a roto/paint artist at Digital Domain... I'm part of the team that integrates live action in the CG environments.

Wait, hold up.
You don't need to answer him... I'm sure the movie is great (Im going to see it on Friday).

Oh and the iAd for Tron was really fun to use... until it crashed.

It will blow your mind...

Well I'm excited about having ads. They are my favourite viewing experience.

I wouldn't be surprised if Apple eventually cut the cost of iPod touch, iPhone, and iPad for customers willing to put up with ads. They could do that because they own the iAd infrastructure as well as iOS and the hardware designs.

This is different than the TV model, where consumers buy the hardware and still have to put up with commercials. Because TV hardware makers don't own the ad infrastructure. Sure, Sony creates TV commercials for that products that you see on your Sony TV. But Sony can't subsidize their TV hardware with their TV ads. They pay the TV networks to show their ads just like everyone else.

In contrast, Apple gets paid for iAds. They could theoretically use that money to subsidize their iOS devices. Including, of course, Apple TV. I think that's why it takes so long to create iAd content, why it's apparently so expensive to do, and why Apple insists on such tight control of the whole process. Ultimately Apple (and their clients) will want iAds to look good on all screen sizes from 3.5" iPhones to 60"+ HDTV screens.

And, of course, once iAd starts to take off on iOS, it will inevitably find its way back to Mac OS. My wild guess is that we'll see iAd-subsidized Mac apps by the Mac OS X 10.7 timeframe if not sooner.

I'm not quite clear on why Apple would want to subsidize all of their devices with Ad Revenue. They are making tons of money selling hardware at a price that actually recoups what it cost to make and turns a profit, so I don't know why they would want to turn that into an Xbox or Playstation or Facebook type of model, where they attempt to defray enormous costs by selling at a loss and recouping later.

I dropped alot of quarters into the original arcade version of TRON back in the 80's
That was my game - back in the day

I could give you some insight on what made that happen, but I'm not sure it'd be appropriate to type in a public forum. If you're interested, you're welcome to PM me.

And ads are part of life, so I guess if I have to have a trud, I want it polished....

Yours maybe.

As someone who either only watches BBC, downloaded TV shows or EyeTV records (skip adverts) I never see adverts on TV. Adblock keeps me ad-free online. I don't read magazines or newspapers. I don't live in the city (no poster adverts). Sorted :D.

But yea I really don't want more adverts on my mobile devices. Can jailbreaking get rid of ads? That's the only place I see them and I'd like them to go away.

As if they needed to advertise this to the gadget crowd....

Waste of ad dollars, IMO. What's next? Advertising the iPad on the iPad?

"That's just your opinion, man"

The Dude's other film, "True Grit", coming out the 22nd, is getting great RT of 93% as of today. Not unexpected as it's a Coen Brother's film with a great cast.

Never saw the original Tron, but it is supposedly remastered for BD and could be released any time. Best to see Tron in 3D, and I'm no fan of 3D.

I read tron reviews on amazon and it's totally Tron fanboys.

I liked the effects of tron but the story was weak!

I'll still watch it though ;)

I wonder if the Tron iAD includes the scenes with the Nokia N8 seeing as Nokia are pushing their N8's with Tron themes & trailers on them to show off the 5.1 Dolby & HD (via HDMI Connector).
