When I attempt to change my external hard drive's icon, instead of showing the image, it shows preview's jpg image (Shown below).

What I did:

1. copied image I wished to use as icon.
2. opened "get info" of external hard drive
3. clicked on image on top left of "get info" of external hard drive.
4. pasted image.

This has happened with every image I have tried to use. What am I doing wrong? How can I just make the icon the default orange one again?

Please help! Thank you.

Sorry if something like this has already been discussed..

First do a Get Info on the hard drive and in the Get Info window click on the icon in the top left cornet and then click on the 'delete' key to change the icon back.

Of course, it would be that simple...
I lost sleep dreading that my icon would be screwed up.
feeling pretty low right now

To use an image from a jpeg or whatever, open the file in preview, select all (cmd + A), then copy and paste that to the get info window.
