Trouble controlling sound via keyboard w/external monitor

I have a 2017 MacBook Pro that is hooked up to a Samsung TV via a USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter. When the default audio is set to the Samsung TV I cannot control the audio via the volume control keys on top of the keyboard. Only the Samsung TV remote adjusts the volume.

When the default audio is changed back to the laptop I'm able to control the volume using the volume keys on the keyboard.

Any suggestions on how I can control the volume on the TV using the keyboard keys is appreciated.

I have been researching new external monitor(s) for my MacBook Pro and bookmarked these links:

I haven't used either one, however both were discussed (with multiple endorsements) in regard to controlling volume with external monitor speakers.

I am using MonitorControl and it works great with my LG 27UL850. Connected via USB-C.
