Go retina and you'll never regret it or go back.

I was in my local Apple Store today and spent a long time with the iPad3's retina display. I've only briefly seen it on a friend's iPad3. For me the retina screen's quality confirmed my decision to upgrade from an iPad2 to a 3. The iPad4's other features are frosting on the cake!

My other realization about the retina display is that it has to be on my next Macbook Pro. I also wish the Air had the retina.

BTW, 1.44 lbs = ~652 grams (you've got 601 on the 4th gen) :)

Here's the comparison page right at Apple:

Slightly more on topic: I agree, the iPad 2 seems to be a in an odd place, if you're OK with the larger form factor, the $100 extra (2nd vs. 4th gen) gets you: 2048x1536 display, an A6X SOC, 1GB RAM (vs. 512MB), better FF and RF cameras, Siri, better WiFi.

If you want a smaller form factor, that's noticeably lighter/thinner, but comes with several of the same 4th gen perks (better cameras, Siri), plus a nice little PPI bump, then the Mini is definitely the way to go, plus it's even _cheaper_ (vs. the iPad 2 ... new vs. new).
