Here's a new one that I haven't seen before. I just got my new 1ghz TiBook in the mail today. It came with a fresh install of 10.5, with none of the updates run.

I deleted the existing users and ran set-up assistant(a process I've done many times on used Macs), then used Migration Assistant to migrate the user account from my other TiBook. I double checked, and indeed it is an admin account.

When I try to download the 10.5.8 combo update, I get the below error message.

I do have a flash drive that has the 10.5.8 combo on it(along with several other things that software utility usually runs) but inadvertently left my keychain of flash drives at work today. I'll try tomorrow and see if I can run it from the USB drive.

In the meantime, though, has anyone else ever seen this error message?

It looks like your transferred user doesn't have the necessary permissions for the location where the OS X installer is copied to.

Try permission repair, and if that doesn't work, you may need to reinstall.

I'd start by creating a brand-new Admin account.

Then delete all other accounts.

Then run Disk Utility, and repair permissions on the drive.

Then manually download the combo update from Apple's website and run it manually.

That looks like a permissions issue. That set of tasks should resolve it.

Only when you have it fully up to date should you migrate your user over from another machine.

Okay, I did shortcut things a little bit and avoided dumping my current account. I repaired the permissions, then downloaded and installed the combo update.

I left for work this morning with it still installing, but so far so good. I'll see this evening.
