I’m using Pages 8.1 on an iMac running 10.13.6. Quite often one pages document or another on my desktop refuses to open. They're current, new documents. When I click on it, it responds (you can tell that you clicked on it), but it doesn't open. No error message or anything. Nothing. I go back later and try to open it and it may or may not open. If I need to see it now, which is usually the case, I've found that I can put it into my documents folder and it will open right up. Anybody have any ideas on why this is happening or how to fix the problem? Thanks!

No. My only options are "Pages.app (default) (8.1)", which SHOULD work, but doesn't always, "Archive Utility.app", whatever THAT is, "Pages.app (4.3)" and "Preview.app". I'm not too interested in opening the documents with another app, even if I could, as I can open them with Pages IF I FIRST MOVE THEM INTO MY DOCUMENTS. I just want to be able to count on them opening every time with Pages, as they should, no matter WHERE they're located. I appreciate your suggestion though. Thanks!

Just out of curiosity, where are these Pages documents located when not in Documents?
(edited: sorry I missed that in your initial post)

Just spitballing, maybe you should run the disk utility to check the health of your disk.

Also, try copying them to an external drive or thumb drive and see if opening from the remote device works well.
