I have a MBP OS X. Whenever I try to send an email away from home using Mail it will not send and will look for a different server. Is there something I need to setup to be able to use other servers/routers??

Thanks for any help.

Not sure about your setup, but I usually get that message when I'm sending mail for my work IMAP account when I'm not VPNed into work's network.

Sometimes, if google's IMAP server is being slow, I'll get the same message. But if I click "edit message" or whatever the don't-send-through-the-other-server option is, I just resend the message and it goes through.

I also get this problem periodically and just assume it's the server's fault and not one related to Mail.app itself. It usually works again after a few minutes of waiting. Cheers.
