Trouble Syncing Photos.

Hi I'm new to mac, 😕
I am having trouble syncing my photos from my iPhone 4 to my iPhoto whenever I connect the usb from my iPhone 4 to my laptop. 🙁 How do I get it to read my phone's camera?
