trouble with cd drive / wallstreet powerbook

i just got a used cd rom drive for my g3 powerbook wallstreet, the drive opens and it makes a little nois=e but nothing mounts, any ideas, do i need a drivr something?

Can you give us more info. about the CD drive. Is it external..if it is, have you tried it with another machine?
