I'm trying to transfer my date from an older Macbook Pro running Tiger to a new one running Leopard and I can't seem to get it to work.

I'm going through the setup on the new Mac and I picked the transferring data "from another mac" and then I click continue and connect the firewire cable to both and the firewire thing shows up just fine on the older Mac but on the newer one, it doesn't let me click continue (it's greyed out) until I click "use ethernet" and then click go back and then it shows up.

When I click continue and go onto the third step of transferring your information, this pops up: "Mac OS X was not found on the volume you selected. You can only transfer information from a Mac that has Mac OS X installed."

Does anyone know why it's doing this? The older Mac is only a year old so I don't think that's the problem but I can't seem to get it to work. I've tried redoing it many different ways but it just keeps saying the same thing. I even let it just sit for half an hour to see if anything would show up but it didn't.

If anyone has had this problem and knows how to fix it or can offer any help, please let me know and thank you so much in advance!

You can't connect the Firewire after you've booted both machines.

Starting with both machines off:
  • Connect the Firewire
  • Boot the new Mac
  • Boot the old Mac into Target Disk mode
The old Mac should now show up on the new one

That didn't help. It's still doing the same thing. Any other ideas?
