Trouble with USB in Mac Pro

I have a 2.8 eight core Mac Pro. Recently I was copying home video captured by IMovie to a WD external book drive. It froze and I had to force quit the copy process. Now I am unable to use anything by USB except my keyboard and mouse. The computer will only occasionally recognize and record files from a thumb drive or a photo card. I don't know if I have a software or a hardware problem. Any suggestions?

do you have applecare? if so, you also have techtool. run that and see if it recognizes any USB problems with your computer.

Thanks. I did run tech tools and it did not show any problem. I guess I will just take it in.
