Hello,

What could be amiss with my 2010 MacBook?

I can switch it on in restore mode but not safe mood.

Initially it was behaving very slowly and crashed weekly. I kept restoring it from a backup and it would work fine for approximately one week. Then, when I restored it from a backup that was known to be good some of the programmes didn't transfer. Ultimately the restore start up didn't work.

I took the MacBook to the local retailer where they installed Lion OS X 10.7. It worked perfectly--like a new computer--for a few days but not it won't go beyond the loading screen when I switch it on, neither does the safe mode work.

Any thoughts as to what might be the problem?

I'm a rolling stone.
Run Apple Hardware Test (AHT) to find out if you have hardware problems, if there are no errors reported you are probably fine.

Intel-based Macs: Using Apple Hardware Test

You probably imported an unstable system while getting stuff from TimeMachine.

The best way is to start over and this time just get your Data like Music, Pictures and the like back without a full restore.
