so that would mean apple uploads your photos to the cloud, even when you have it turned off?
if you did a secure erase and they are popping back up, they can't have just been left undeleted/unindexed on the device.
the problem with all this is it is a bunch of anecdotal evidence from a bunch of people where you do not know the background. far from proper testing methodology. maybe these people did use icloud at some point and forgot, mb their wife turned it once, etc
Little more light on my case….
I don’t use iCloud Photos - had a couple of disasters with it initially where it borked the loaded photo library.
I manually load to an SSD or other storage and then delete from my iPhone. I take a lot of pics especially when traveling or on vacation.
I do keep an iCloud backup of my device for emergency restores when traveling. I do backup either on my MBP or PC. Depends on what I am using at the moment.
Take pic > off load to SSD (or other storage) > delete photo on device
This is the same process I use for all my devices, iOS and Android.
I had a 165 photos return with the 17.5 update all to the Recents folder. They were from two vacations with a small mix of photos, screenshots and downloads. Looking at the dates, they were taken with an 8 Plus, 12PM and 13PM. This is a very small amount compared to the thousands I have taken. The “reappearance” only happened on my 15PM. Nothing on my iPad Pro or MBP.
I tend to run a lot of betas and periodically have done a complete reset as new to get past some bugs or messy issues.
Why these pics? No clue. They are not from Messages, email, or other messaging apps.
This is not something I normally check on updates. If it had not posted on Reddit and MacRumors, I never would have thought to look.
