A friend of mine had the Dodge. Serviced it by the numbers. Transmission died about 2000 miles after warranty and no help at all. I think that was only 50K, way, way too soon, warranty or not. POS.

I have lots of years in the auto repair field and came to trust Toyota/Honda like no other brand. I also like the resale value and the fact that a used one gets lots of interest from buyers. My Tundra, the previous and more logical mid-sized design, has been absolutely perfect and now that it is off commute duty, I will keep it forever.

I like the F-150 line. It is a good truck if optioned-out to your tastes.

My family has owned A LOT of Fords. But, my brother has a Dodge Dakota, and after about 60,000 it is still going strong. I have a 2008 Ford Escape that is pretty solid while my father is still rocking out the 2005 Ford F-150 King Ranch with 80,000 miles. We had a number of Ford Explorers, don't remember the years. My father gets really sweat deals with Ford because of the buyer loyalty as well as the salesman being my fathers friend/client. I got my Escape (2008, XLT 4WD, V6) in 2008, sticker price was $28,000, got it down to just under $20,000. My Escape is like a go-cart though, it is LIGHT and doesn't handle well at high speeds (over 60MPH).

I like Toyota's. Their Tacoma can't be beat. But when it comes to larger vehicles, I'd go for Ford. My dad has a 2000 F-350 V8 Diesel with 350,000 miles on it, it still runs great. A 2005 F-150 with 140,000 on it, still going. I think he also has a 1999 Ranger with around 280,000 on it but it's definitely on its last leg.

280,000 miles isn't bad especially for a Ranger. :p Ford really needs to redesign that thing....

This is what I think about Toyota's trucks. :p
