Note that you can only have one Exchange account on the iPhone. If you're already using it for work email, you can't use it with google contacts/calendar unless you first disconnect your work email.
 
Yeah, that's the downside for me, although since MobileMe works well for me, I'm not really losing out since I have all that syncing going on now anyway.
 
Well Apple just lost $100 a year from me. I have 3 months left and I'm using that as forwarding time to make sure I don't forget anything. Setup a free Google Apps account and I even have my own domain setup! Still looking for a good webhost - but finding something for under $100 a year will be a piece of cake.

(Use DropBox for an iDisk competitor, works great so far)

For those of us using Exchange in a corporate environment where calendars are not stored local, MobileMe continues to be useless when syncing my work laptop and my Mac at home so the Google announcement is very good news.

Actually, it's still not good news for you. It uses Exchange, and you can only have one Exchange account set up at a time.
 
I only have one Exchange account so it is doing the job for me. I have a BlackBerry and it syncs to it as well.

Unless something has changed, you can only sync one Exchange account. GoogleSync requires setting up as an Exchange account.

So, how are you syncing your office Exchange account and Google using Exchange?

I use the sync that Google released to sync my calendars and contacts.
 
I guess I'm not following.

If you set up Exchange on your iPhone for your work mail, then you can't set up GoogleSync, since it also uses Exchange.

You can either sync with Exchange at work, or Exchange with Google, but not both.

Or am I missing something here?

Sorry, I don't have an iPhone. I'm simply trying to synchronize Exchange with MobileMe. It isn't supported, but I can do this with Google's sync.

I actually use the Google calendar sync app to push my work exchange calendar to a google calender... I then use calaboration for iCal to pull it down to my home macbook. As for the iphone... I have exchange set up... but I keep the mail off unless I'm traveling for work... don't need those kinds of distractions at home 😉
