For true tone: For MacBook Air M1
  • Off for photo and video editing, and any other situation when I want the colors extremely accurate.
  • On for all other situations because the blue screen tint is too distracting and causes eyestrain.
For True Tone on iPhone and iPads it is always on.

For Nightshift:
  • Always off on MacBook Air M1.
  • On from Sunset to Sunrise on iPhone and iPads.

True tone on when i'm consuming content. Different story if one is creating content. Then you should have your display calibrated to a industry standard, example 6500k, 2.2 gamma, and also use your screen in a neutral environment in the first place. Studios etc use 50% neutral gray walls and no lamps to mess up with the eye sight.

I have a love hate relationship with True Tone. At times I like it but I do find that the white colors appear yellowish. If I keep using it then I like it but sometimes it just looks off and I turn it off. I kind of go back and forth depending on what I am doing and where.

I use True Tone but run a color filter along with it adding a small amount of magenta. It takes the edge off the yellow.
