I have bought 3 small bluetooth speakers, one for each room.

All are same exact brand and model and all share the same Bluetooth name, and that is where the problems start.

I would like to listen to music playing from my Iphone to each speaker individually when I am occupying a certain room.

When I am in the living room, I would connect to the speaker located there. When in the study, I would connect to the speaker located there and so on....

Since all speakers have same name it is difficult to figure out which one to connect to at present location.
All 3 are currently visible and all have same name.

I found instructions how to change the Bluetooth device name, for for whatever reason I cannot do it on my 6sPlus.
The fourth step is not accessible for me.

Here is the procedure:

Rename a Bluetooth accessory on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
  • Make sure that your Bluetooth accessory is powered on and wirelessly connected.
  • Open the Settings app, then tap Bluetooth.
  • Tap next to the Bluetooth accessory that you want to rename, then tap Name. ...
  • Enter a new name, tap Done on the keyboard, then tap

Not sure where you found those instructions, but chainging the name of a bluetooth device on iOS is not possible (maybe with a jailbreak, IDK).

It's the dumbest thing about iOS. Seriously, this has been an issue for years and years and Apple has no interest in allowing this. At this point, it's probably more likely that the manufacturer of the BT speaker would give you the means to change the BT ID of the speaker than Apple allowing iOS devices to change names. In other words, it'll never happen.

Super dumb.

You will find it hard to believe, but it's on Apple's website:

What am I doing wrong here?

Step number 4 is not possible on my Iphone. The Bluetooth name appears only once: on top of the screen by the <Bluetooth, and not twice as in photo below.

Rename a Bluetooth accessory on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

  1. Make sure that your Bluetooth accessory is powered on and wirelessly connected.
  2. Open the Settings app, then tap Bluetooth.
  3. Tap

next to the Bluetooth accessory that you want to rename, then tap Name.
Some Bluetooth accessories can't be renamed.

The custom name that you give your accessory now appears in the Bluetooth settings on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. Learn how to rename your AirPods.

What version iOS are you using?

yes, I am trying to change its name only while connected to the actual speaker.

it is a Sharper Image brand. Cheap but pretty good. Its BT name is SBT3018

I have more than a few BT devices. None of them can have their names changed.

Those instructions (they seem to be brand new) indicate that not all BT devices can have their names changed in iOS. I'm wondering if the only ones that can are Apple and Beats devices.

I have two sets of powerbeats2 wireless headphones. The only way I could change the names was connect them, via USB, to my MacBook and change the names on the Beats software update website. Don’t know if that helps at all.
