Trying to get iTunes to recognize iPod Classic

Has anyone had success with getting iTunes to recognize an iPod Classic? I am trying to load a 20 GB classic with music and audiobooks, and iTunes doesn't recognize the iPod, even though my MBP does.

If getting iTunes to recognize the iPod Classic in El Capitan is not possible, is there a free way to sync the iPod without using iTunes? I would rather not have to load Yosemite on another partition, if at all possible.

It appears that Firewire syncing of iPods is still working. I've been syncing an iPod Mini and a 4th gen Classic that way.

I take it I need a USB to Firewire adapter. I will have to order one.

Or....since USB issues are a known problem with DP2...wait a couple more days and see if DP3 fixes it.

Sync appears to work again in El Capitan Beta 3.

Glad to have iPod Classic sync on El Capitan. Now I don't have to look for an adapter cable that doesn't exist. 😎
