My g4 imac has been crashing programs left and right. I was told to reinstall my operating sys. So i can upgrade from 10.28 to 10.3. I heard of a way to save all files and programs just haven't found any lit on the subject. Thanks for the help.

Archive and Install

This is the setup for 10.4 Tiger. I'll assume it's the same for 10.3 Panther.

The Choices are:

- Upgrade
- Archive and Install
- Erase and Install

What you want to do is "Archive and Install". I think what it does is put all your files currently on your hard drive in a folder on the root(top) of your hard drive called old system or something like that and installs a new operating system to boot into.

If you are updating from MacOS X 10.2.8 to MacOS X 10.3.0 or whatever, then you really don't have to go through extra steps. The installer will run an extensive scan and repair as part of the installation process.
