Those instructions look like they're for OS... 10.3?

VPNs are now configured in System Preferences > Network. Click the plus sign in the bottom left and select VPN from the Interface menu.

i tried to that but it didn't work...on windows you have to use VPN client software to connect to the server of the VPN of my work.i take it on MAC OSX you don't use client softwares for VPNs at all?
 
It depends on the type of VPN you're using as to whether you need client software. Firstly, do you know the type of VPN server you're attempting to connect to? Secondly, do you know the protocol it is using? For instance, is it an SSL or IPSec VPN?
