Trying to transfer old Thunderbird mail to new iMac

Hello.......I don't even know if I'm posting this in the right area (total newbie)

I want to transfer all my e-mails as they are from my eMac 10.4.11 to my new iMac. The mail client I use is Thunderbird v 1.5 beta2......a relic!

The Migration Assistant in the eMac is not recognizing the new iMac....the e says it needs to be updated but the software updater says it is at peak

I'd rather use TBird than Mac Mail on the new computer......
