So, I have an Iphone 3s which really needs a full restore from scratch. It is really slow and becomes unreliable after I updated the OS to 5.

I feel that I need to go through a full reset and start from scratch. Maybe it will make my Iphone feel like normal again.

Before i do the reset, I need to make sure that all is backed up including contacts and photos and hopefully my text messages.

I am using Icloud on my Iphone, Imac, Ipad 3 and Mac Air, so they are all connected though icloud.

I have just succesfully backed up and merged all contacts on Icloud, and they are indeed showing up on all devices except the Ipad (I hope for them to arrive very soon).

The biggest challenge is with photos. Each one of these devices except for the Iphone has photos exceeding any imaginable amount of Icloud storage. i do not want them to be stored in the cloud, but really need to preserve my Iphone photo collection before I reset it.

What should I do?

As of now I have enabled Photostream on all devices waiting for what will happen. So far, after visiting the Icloud website and logging into my account, no photo Icon is showing. I can see Contacts, Find my Iphone, Calendar, notes, Mail, reminders, Iwork, but no photos.

Should i use Icloud to backup and later restore my Iphone photos, or is there another way by using Itunes and direct cable like in the good old times 3 months ago?

If using Icloud, how can just backuo the Iphone photos without backing up 2 TB of photofiles from my Imac? Should I just disable Photo Stream on each device and leave it enabled on the Iphone? Would this work?

Any advice would be really helpful.

Thanks.

what is an iPhone 3s?

You have few options for photos and video

1) App like SimpleTrasfer
2) iPhoto on a MacBook
3) NAS device like iomega ix2-200 with iomega link app.

Keep in mind Photostream completes ignores videos.

If you take lot of pictures and videos, best is to disable camera roll(iCloud backup) and Photostream. Use one of the above options. Use photostream when you are on road/vacation where you don't have access to MacBook/Laptop/NAS device, so that your pictures are not lost.

I would suggest iPhoto as well for your pics. If you unsure about restoring from an iCloud backup, maybe you should back it up to iTunes as well, by plugging it in to your computer, right clicking on your phone in the left panel, and then selecting backup. If your phone is still acting up, then you can always do another restore and then next time restoring from iCloud instead. Not sure if that is the easiest way, but that's how i would do it. lol
