Trying to update to Mojave

I'm on a Mid 2010 Pro 5.1 running High Sierra. My boot rom is MP51.0089.B00. I have Mojave ready to install in my applications folder. I installed a Radeon RX580. Machine is working fine, but when I try to do the mojave firmware update, it doesnt work. All I got was a grey screen. No logo or process bar. After I tried it twice, the next time I tried it, it flashes, long beep then chime, turns off in 5 sec and then restarts in normal high sierra mode.

Any thoughts on why this could be?
