I just wish they would have done that for their Canadian version...it's the same freaking company, but Intuit Canada only made their program for Windows

Unless you're wary of the online version, I'd use that. (It's what I've been using that for the past couple of years.)

TurboTax

You can do Turbo Tax online and save the trouble of dealing with with software.
I did it and it was easy. And accurate. I know because I was worried it would n't be accurate and went to a tax person to get it done and she gave me the same results as the online Turbo TAx.

PDF issue

This seems like a good thread to ask about my PDF problem.

I've been using the Web version of Turbotax for several years. Until this year, I've never bothered to print the forms (keep electronic PDF copies only).

This year I wanted to print - tried it, and the right edge of the 1040 is missing (1 or 2 digits in the dollar amounts) and the right edge of the form boxes.

When viewed in Preview, the PDFs look fine. When viewed in Adobe Reader (installed just to verify this problem), the PDFs display with the right edge missing like the printed version.

Is there some issue with the PDF as generated by TurboTax? Is anyone else seeing this?

So if you are going to buy the Tax Cut H and R block sofware this year- open the package while in the parking lot and make sure the Cd is in there. I bought the Deluxe Federal without state (I live in tax free NH!!) a month+ ago. When I went to install it I pulled out the free Windows only Will Power CD, then I pulled out the other CD and it was a second copy of the Will Power CD. No Tax Cut software CD was included. Luckily I live 5 minutes from Circuit City and they said they have had several returned for that reason.

PDF issue resolved

So, in case anyone else runs across this problem, here's a solution.

When 'printing' your tax forms in web TurboTax, you get a pop-up window to view the PDF file using the Safari plug-in (which was intially Preview, as I had never installed Adobe Reader previously). I saved the PDF from this pop-up window. The PDF looked fine in preview, but was missing the right edge when printed, or when viewed in Adobe Reader.

I installed Adobe reader and it's Safari plug-in, and re-generated the PDFs from TurboTax. (That is, the PDF processing in Safari was handled by Adobe, not Preview.) Now, they are identical when viewed in Preview, Adobe, or printed.

Implies that the issue was related to Preview?

TurboTax import from TaxCut?

Has anyone successfully imported last year's TaxCut return into TurboTax? I have last year's TaxCut from Windows, and want to import into this year's TurboTax on Mac to give it a try. Not the best UI or printing on TaxCut. I assume the file is importable cross-platform (anyone with different experience?) Thx.

is it free?

no. It is not free. My time is not either, though. If I was just a single guy with one job and no income from anything else (no stocks), I'd do an ez on paper. I have a kid and a wife and 401ks. I'd rather have help from turbotax and not try to figure it out on my own. If it saves my two hours then it has easily paid for itself.

You can use it without paying. In this case it would ask you all the questions. You would fill in the data online. At the end though you would have to fill in the forms by hand.

I have used Turbo tax for years without any real problems. I do the electronic filing and the California state tax as well. All this on a G4.

This year I didn't get my software and called. Had the wrong expiration date on my card. So said the guy in India.

I can only imagine how hard it would be for someone in another country to give tax preparation advice to us. He said India has a similar tax system to ours, a surprise to me, but also has a Value Added Tax like Europe.

I have always purchased the software and done it that way. I'm not opposed to purchasing the tools to help me through a tax refund by any stretch of the imagination!! Thanks for the heads up and I will be sure to check it out!
