i wanted to make my ibook 500mhz a bit faster and i was wondering if i could stop dashboard running in the background

You can use this: http://d-t-f.sourceforge.net/ to disable Spotlight too. Use Shadowkiller to disable shadows under open windows. Less GUI elements to handle will help a little.

thanks that helped i have now disabled the dashboard and i may look into disabling spotlight too
