If I wanted to write a program for mac (hopefully a screensaver) that could turn off the display / screen / monitor completely (not just make it black), would I be looking at working with OpenGL or some other OSX library / framework? I'm already a programmer but new to development on macs.

The reason I want to do this is because I'm running a hackintosh that has problems with both standard sleep and display sleep, so I thought a good alternative would be just writing a simple app or screensaver that would just turn off the screen.

Looking for any insight - thanks!
