Is there any way to turn off the energy saving stuff in Mavericks that essentially freezes background windows from using the CPU?

I have a game I play side by side with browser windows. When it's processing data in the background, I like to surf webpages. But in Mavericks the in-game processing only occurs when the game window is in the foreground. When it's inactive with me clicking inside browser windows, the game essentially freezes until I click back into the game window. And then it freezes again when I return to the browser. This is very annoying.

I can't find anything in preferences that enables me to turn this stuff off. Activity monitor doesn't have anything that would allow me to exclude processes from this new technology in Mavericks either.

Any suggestions?
