Turn off iCloud document chooser

Hi,

I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this, but...

I am happy that Apple lets us now choose which apps use the "Documents and Data" setting. I would like to have it enable for iWork to grab iOS work or send work to iCloud, but I want Pages to open directly to my custom template when I launch it.

This works fine unless D&D is activated, then it always opens to iCloud documents and I have to select new.

Is there any way to change this default behavior?

I've fiddled for hours to get this to work too...No luck, I still have to choose new from the box each time.
