Please tell me Apple in its "wisdom" did not remove the ability to turn off Split View?

Split view confuses the hell out of technology phobic people and whenever it activates (even with the new "simpler" design) becomes a tech support nightmare.

I really miss when the iPad OS was a content consumption device and not a wanna be computer OS. Thankfully I can at least turn off the iPadOS 15 upgrade for a year and hope Apple brings back the off switch for multitasking/split view :)

I love multitasking, but can totally understand why some people would want to turn it off, especially for older people and those who are less tech savvy.

I really hope Apple hasn’t pointlessly removed another feature/option. It seems every year Apple removes useful features for no obvious reason or shuffle the furniture around for the sake of change.

I suggest you provide feedback directly to Apple through the beta feedback app or through the website.

Yes, they have pointlessly removed it, they keep making it harder and harder to setup iPads for simple use.
I will do the Apple feedback but it wont matter.

I completely understand the frustration and hope it will be reversed but unfortunately realise this rarely happens.

Even though it doesn’t effect me, I will be sending feedback and will encourage others to as well.

I keep inadvertently activating multitasking. Sometimes I tap it while swiping down for Notification Center. Other times, apps that require you tap at the top center result in inadvertent taps.

yep exactly. When double tap top of safari i have to avoid the ... otherwise it starts to split the screen on me.

I know I am the rarity, but on a 10" ipad screen in portrait mode the split screen view has no use for me, the apps are too small to be useful. Easier to just swipe between apps.

This is seriously annoying me, even on a 12.9 I keep fat fingering this evertime I need to touch the address bar, wish they would at least let us move the control off center

I’m accidentally activating multitasking multiple times an hour, and I’m tired of it.
Ditto. They put it exactly on the spot they trained us to double tap to get to the top of a web page ☹️.

Please submit to apple feedback. Maybe they’ll fix it.

I seriously regret upgrading to IOS 15. One annoying issue after another.

I am constantly accidentally creating a split screen in Safari, I went into settings as I thought it changed back during the upgrade and nothing there To change it.

Downgrade to iOS 14. Search here or web for instructions

Apple simply refuse to accept iPadOS is STILL a derivative of iOS, an operating system designed for a phone, and Band-Aid as much as they can to fool people to think iPad can do serious work. This is how I see this whole situation.

I sometimes wonder about the F-wit programmers at Apple. I HATE the bloody split screen. I have very arthritic fingers and keep swiping it on accidentally. Removing the ability to permanently turn it off is the act of a moron. Recently both the iOS and Mac system designers seem to have really lost the plot and are so ego driven to adding "whizzy" new features that they lose sight of the way folks actually want to use the devices.

For a company that allegedly prides itself on "accessibility" and "inclusiveness" , they sure seem to make things harder and harder for older folks or those somehow impaired to use their products. Setting so many traps for those that can't control furtive movements. It makes me incredulous.

Yep, this is absolutely ****. They forced iOS 15 on a few technology incompentent people I help and its confusing the hell out of them, plus they're opening tons of windows for the apps.

What the F*CK is apple thinking

Quit the BS of “old people and ‘idiots’.”

Smart people can also hate it as needless.

You’re not as “young’n’brilliant” as you think.

I still inadvertently tap these controls multiple times a day. A lot of apps have content in the top center I need to tap.

Well done misquoting me! Of course “smart people” can hate it. In fact I never suggested anything to do with peoples intelligence. It has nothing to do with peoples intelligence and the fact you bring this up is rather revealing.

As for the 3 dots that are easily triggered by mistake - I agree with those who consider this both annoying & a terrible design but I was not even discussing this feature - I was talking about the option to switch off multitasking altogether and I believe this option should still be available for everyone. Also I’m not even on iPados 15 yet.

P.S. The reason I love multitasking is because it helps with my accessibility needs after a serious accident. I am well aware that there are many different reasons for liking/disliking or using/not using multitasking and as I have previously mentioned I am unhappy that Apple needlessly took away the option to switch this off. Despite this not impacting me I have sent feedback to Apple.

This is still a horrible mess. Visited a few technology challenged people and found they had opened hundreds of windows for Mail, News, and Safari.

Oh and I still hit the damn split view all the time when I am trying to double tap the top edge to scroll back up to the top in a web site or app.

WTF is apple thinking?

Hopefully, this gets addressed in iPadOS 16. Rumor is it will have multitasking changes.

I accidentally tap it multiple times a day. I wish I could just turn it off like in OSes of yesteryear.
