Good article. Makes it easier, convenient and faster to start watching if there is only one user.

Can each user have their own VPN location? I watch some tv in the US, some in Portugal, and some in the UK. It would be very convenient.

"The feature helps households with multiple users maintain separate viewing histories and recommendations,..."

NO, it helps Apple better track and monetize their customers. Why do we tolerate corporations telling us that their nefarious actions are for our "convenience", when they have no interest in improving our experience? Every new "feature" is designed to increase profits. That's it.

If you share your Apple TV with others and want to switch profiles manually, you can still access profile options by going to Settings ➝ Users and Accounts and selecting a different user profile from there.
Or you could just long press the Home button to open the Control Center and it's right there...

For this feature to be properly useful it needs a few tweaks

1) when switching users it needs to go back to the Home Screen rather than the last app that my son was watching.

2) it could do with Netflix style profile locks with a pin AND the ability to disable specific apps for restricted (ie kid) accounts.

1 is just annoying. Without 2 it is mostly pointless.

Completely, entirely agreed. Without universal overarching settings on each account which mirror within every app, the feature is an utter waste. I currently see no point in the profiles now or as they were; they impact nothing more than the AppleTV+ App.

My friends Apple TV has a bug (on 26.2) where if she clicks the option to disable this, it recognizes the click, and nothing happens. Click again, and it turns off. However the setting doesn’t actually change, and when you come back to the menu, it’s back on. She literally can’t disable it lol.

When people on here complain about the Software QA, this is the type of things they’re talking about. We’ve tried everything, she would most likely have to reset the Apple TV to get this setting to work

Same here. That’s bad!
Will see if there’s a way to fix it without resetting. Or maybe hang in there for 26.3 and see.

I have this bug too. You have to click on it only once. It appears that the option has not changed, but it has. Go back in the menu and then enter it again, and you will see, that it has switched to "disabled".
Aha! That’s the glitch! It does change when clicking the first time, but it doesn’t visibly change. Good catch. Thanks! :)

Apple finds the remote sucks as well, hence them creating a new design with every new AppleTV.
I’m using the AppleTV attached to an Amazon Fire TV screen and then I can use that remote. Works great!

I'm using the AppleTV4k remote to change volume on a soundbar from Sonos. Works great, and I don't get the annoying volume change indicator (graph, really) on the TV.

And now somehow after ≈ 3 years the volume goes all the way up (or down) when using the Apple Remote. Like the button is stuck. Oh well, back to using the TV remote, which kinda sucks.

Now to get rid of the “turn the Apple TV” off choice every time it turns on🤦‍♂
