I’m selling an Apple Watch. So I’ve reset it etc and it’s now on the setup screen “move close to iPhone to setup” etc.

However I can’t switch it off! How do you switch it off in this mode? I’ve held side button but nothing happens

You don't have to do anything more but turn off the power. When the new owner turns it on they're ready to start setup.

This is no different than an iPhone or iPad - after being erased it is ready for setup.

If you do anything yourself to start setup/put the Watch on a different screen you are just creating problems for the new owner, who will then have to erase the device before setting it up.

I can’t turn it off to send to sell.

I know to leave it in this setup mode, but I’m sending it via post, and I can’t switch it off though.

When you hold down the side button the watch should show you the SOS Emergency Call slider.
At the top is Cancel and the on/off icon.

Press that icon then you can slide "off"

ETA: note if the watch is on the charger you won't be able to turn it off

Nope. Doesn’t go to that screen. I have another Apple Watch and know normally how to turn it off but as this one is in setup mode it won’t switch off.

Holding down side button does nothing. I’ve removed it from the charger as it was flat so presume when I reset it I hadn’t turned off and so went flat.

I’ve charged it a bit but now I can’t turn it off!?!

Try force restarting the Apple Watch by holding the side button and Digital Crown for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo shows. Then see if you can turn it off like you normally would.
