It just feels wasteful, and a little weird, to have your lock screen always visible, even when you're away. Feels like it invites too much attention.
My wife turned it off within an hour of having the iPhone.

I think other companies do always-on display better – just a subtle greyscale clock in the corner, and a battery % stat.

I always thought always on display is a useless feature and I never understood why someone could really need this when in reality you just have to tap the screen to have all your info. You save what? 0,5 second with Always-on display? Apple just implement this because tech nerds cried and beg for this for years saying Android have it and how its cool.

Even if I'm trying hard to think about it, I don't have a single situation in mind where this could be really handy. Maybe in your desk while you working? Chances are you're on your computer so you already have all you need there.

I even disable this on my Apple Watch.

It switches off when you leave the room if you have an Apple Watch and will switch off if the away from the phone long enough.

I like the current implementation but I think even it’s biggest fans agree there is ample room to let us have some additional customization of the AOD
This is pretty much it. I understand why some folks may not like it, but those of us who have it enabled could absolutely use some more customization options. Support for multiple brightness (dimness?) levels and an option to just have the information on an otherwise black screen with no background seem like two features that should have been there from the beginning and are hopefully added soon.

I like the feature more than I thought I would, but I do hope they update it sooner rather than waiting for iOS 17.

I'm on the fence. I actually do like it a lot and I'm finding I enjoy more than any AOD mode I've had on other android phones (minus the "Ambient Display" Motorola phones had), but at the same time I think it would've been cooler if it separated the subject and removed the background instead of basically just dimming the wallpaper. I'm also worried about the lifespan of the display, as in MrMobile's questions answered video he said Apple says they are not using Pixel Shift "because they don't need to". I'm curious how these displays will hold up, but I'm not sure if I want to be a test subject.

Plus I have an Apple Watch so I just interact with that when I need to see notifications and widgets/complications.

I am waiting to see how long it takes for the burn in posts to start. I suspect not very long.
