Is there precedent for Apple using a completely different Intel part? I can't recall them using anything proprietary.

Afaik the first Macbook Airs used some custom Intel chip that (at first), was only available to Apple.
Semiaccurate had an article about Apple using a custom build Haswellchip for this generation, but (I never read it myself) it was said, that it was about some beefed up Iris graphics ...

Not familiar with the Air stuff, but I did hear something about Iris. They were requesting a top binning which is not a different part, just sifting out the best performing ones. If this leak is true, it would mean Apple is using unique configurations of processors that aren't available to other OEMs.

If this is correct, Im going max spec all the way!

2.6/16/1TB/Nvidia 7xxM with 2GB vRAM (BTO)

Same. Max spec here too.

I wonder how fast that 1TB SSD is. They quoted speeds of 1.2GB/s read and 1GB/s write on the Mac Pro which is going to be using a PCIe based SSD stick I'm hoping for similar performance out of the 1TB PCIe SSD present in the new RMBPs.

Regarding the 15", there must be some typos or this isn't accurate. The 4750HQ is 2.0GHz with GT3e, so that checks out. However, the 4850HQ is the only 2.3GHz part and that includes a GT3e as well. Obviously, this makes a dedicated GPU not quite redundant but extremely cost inefficient... and not at all in line with a midrange model. The 4960HQ is the 2.6GHz part, and that includes GT3e as well. I'm not sure what to make of this.

Is there precedent for Apple using a completely different Intel part? I can't recall them using anything proprietary. There are 2.2, 2.4, 2.7 and 2.8GHz GT2 parts, not including the Extreme processor. It would have to be one of those, wouldn't it? Otherwise, I'd have to imagine the GPU is out.

Geekbench scores began to surface.!

This picture shows that one of 15" models is equipped with 2.4GHz quad-core i7 with Iris Pro 5200! I am now confused. The source thread in that Chinese forum must be inaccurate, if not absolutely fake.

The 4950HQ could be a BTO? Just because the chinese source doesn't list every BTO option, the validity shouldn't be disregarded on the basis of that?

That Geekbench score is from July 9!

And i7-4950HQ is a mobile CPU with Iris Pro, quad-core and 2.4GHz. Maybe they would be using that in the base model?

No way, it's the highest spec HQ you can get from Intel (ok, 4960HQ, but I don't know if it's available yet) and it's the most expensive one.

So 16GB of RAM on the 13" is only available for the 1TB SSD model? That'll be crazy expensive..

That's just the "Ultimate" configuration that they will probably carry in stores. If there is a 16GB option you will probably be able to select it when you customize any model online.

It is not that unrealistic, to be honest. And combination of Iris Pro and dGPU would be really amazing - that L4 cache could be quite useful. Let's wait few more hours and see what comes out of it :)

Yes you are right, sorry for that.

The info I repost in this thread is supported by another post in that Chinese forum with detailed CPU/GPU model number. It's seems the info is legit.

The biggest surprise for me is 15" models have Iris Pro 5200 plus dGPU yet 13" only has Iris 5100.

Where is the surprise here? There are no dual core Haswell CPUs with Iris Pro, the information about Intel CPUs is freely available. Iris Pro in the 13" would be really surprising.

it's just unfortunate for me as the config i want is the base iris pro only option but with 16gb upgrade - the store won't stock them so i have to BTO and wait a few days, ugh

---

I thought the 13" should have better iGPU...

haswell wikipedia there are no dual cores (28Watt) with Iris Pro (5200), they have Iris (5100)

so it's been expected for a long time now that they will be getting the 5100, getting a quadcore in the 13" would up the TDP to 47Watt which is unlikely, a dgpu is even more unlikely as that would be 28W + 45ishW

though you can hope for the next few hours that intel is providing something special for apple - but that's not going to happen

So it seems the i7-4960HQ is available at least for Apple. Nice, I'm going for this baby, but do I need 1TB of storage  I don't think so. Hope you can select it with 512GB of storage as BTO.

My guess is that the high-end stock model has 4960HQ+512G flash and 1TB flash is offered as optional upgrade.

I didn't check up the dual-core line-up before. Now I am 99.999% sure that 5100 is the only thing one can get on 13" rMBP. :(

The annoying thing is the only two numbers I care (7xxM) about are blanked out!!

So true!!!!

That sounds completely sensible.
Still deciding whether I need 1TB of storage in the machine as I have plenty of external drives and its not going to be a portable system - so will be used at home most of the time as my workhorse system - but then again I want it to last as long as possible so I like to overkill!!
Will need to check on the price difference first!

hmmm....... I'll still take it with a pinch of salt, but would be sweet if true!
