Does anyone have a list of free or one-time purchase 3rd party apps (no subscription based) to get all the metrics that Garmin has on the Apple Watch Ultra 2?

Workoutdoors for sure and I use Healthfit for analytics. It’s a phone app that organises and analyses data collected with your watch. No direct import/export with Garmin Connect (Rungap does that with a subscription) Swim.com is free and allows you to organise a structured swim workout.

Thanks, I have bought both WorkOutDoors and Healthfit just now.

If anyone knows additional apps to close the gap, feel free to post it here.

Footpath is pretty great for mapping and navigation. I know you said no subs, but it's $15 bucks a year and worth every penny.
Plus there is a web, iPad and iPhone app to create maps and folders

Someone pointed out recently that if you use RunGap to export an AW workout to Garmin Connect there’s a setting in RunGap that will cause Garmin Connect to calculate training effect and load (as if the workout had been done with a Garmin).

Helpful if you track those things.

Healthfit has a TSB fitness level graph I still have to interpret well…

I have a Garmin cycling computer and integration between the two is not the best. Can’t read HR data from AW on Garmin. If I want full detail of cycling training on Health there are three options:

- run simoultaneosly training on AW
- pay a subscription to Rungap
- go on Garmin site with PC/Mac, export TCX file on cloud and import it in the phone with Healthfit.

Don’t know if there’s a brand that integrates better. But a Quadlock, Apple Care+ on the phone if you’re still on time, and iPhone mirroring of the standard app maybe can work too if autonomy is not sn issue. For directions and route planning Komoot is another good app, you can have a region’s map and a good use of the map for free, then decide to buy all world’s map (it cost me 20€ discounted single buy, standard price 30€ here) usual suggestion get AC+, repairs can be very costly. I like Workoutdoors maps over Komoot directions on AW better though. But if you want road directions on your phone while cycling Komoot I think can be s good option.

I usually plan my trip on Komoot site, export trace and import in Workoutdoors.

My must have apps to make a Garmin from the AWU:

- Athlytic
- HealthFit
- Heart Analyzer
- WorkOutDoors / Footpath
- RunGap
- Carrot / Alti-Barometer Trend Tracker

Unfortunately, all of them are paid or subscription based

I use most of them. Heart Analyzer (and Health Hive) have much information for free. Also in AltiBarometer Trend Tracker there are interesting functions for free.
Maybe Tides Around Me (free with some ad on the phone) can be a good addition if you practice water sports in places (covered) that have significant tides.

You’re not going to get anywhere near the same experience with free apps, and even with paid apps and subscriptions I’d argue the experience is still quite lacking. It’s why I can’t give up my Fenix 6 Pro. It’s just too good a fitness and sports watch.
