So here is the deal. I have a MBP, and i use it to watch tv shows and stuff before i go to bed. usually i use the program Awaken to set a timer for my mac to sleep in 30 min etc etc. however, if i am running transmission for downloading torrents, the torrents stop downloading once the computer is asleep. im wondering if there is someway to have something similar to Awaken, but instead of putting my mac to sleep, i want to just turn the display off... or even just have it turn the brightness to zero.

anyways, theres my issue, hopefully you guys can help me out!

You can see if the timer in System Preferences will work, if not, you could set a hot corner to turn off the screen.

ive tried using the sytem preferences, but that doesnt work if im playing a full screen movie in vlc. and i dont want to use a hot corner because if my mbp is across the room, its kinda a hassel to get up and move the mouse over if the whole point of me watching something is for me to fall asleep 😛
