Turning off top hits.

Ipad 2, IOS 8.0.2.

Having been through and switched off all the search functions I can in both Google and Safari I am still getting top hits come up when I enter a letter in the search bar at the top of the page.

Am I beeing stupid in trying to turn this off or have I forgotten something simple?
