If you read Apple marketing materials, they make it sound like the C1 is doing the heavy lifting. It turns out the battery was increased by 12% in capacity (Wh rating) compared to iPhone 16.

For every 1% increase, the video streaming battery life tends to increase by 1.3% to 1.4%. This is similar to what we saw with iPhone 15 to iPhone 16.

Yeah, I'm surprised Apple did that. It's already missing an entire camera. For $599, they didn't need to delete sensor shift or reduce the number of focus pixels.
Same, if it had a decent camera sensor it's then future proof'd and more appealing... with a single camera and a small sensor, quality is going to be mediocre in todays market.

need to wait to C3 they were saying to get real efficiency. But if chip is smaller it technically helps bc larger battery.

The "innovation" is breathtaking

😐

Maybe the real reason they stopped making iPhone Mini's is they lack the technical chops to make a good one

(thinking about efficiency / battery life in particular, for which the Mini's were rightly ridiculed)

The 13PM camera system was/is still quite capable, it is the reason I have not "needed" to upgrade. Sensor shift ☑️ 100% Focus Pixels ☑️ and 2:3 of good optics ☑️

My theory: they tried to fit the largest possible battery in order to wow people and make us believe the C1 is amazingly efficient.

I’m not saying it is not power efficient, but I’m still not convinced with the first in-house modem of Apple, honestly. The cellular module is one of the most important parts of a smartphone and having poor coverage/reception is going to suck. So for now, I remain a bit cautious. I guess it’s going to depend on the country cellular networks.
