Because a possible jailbreak -might- be coming, here i am explaining how to keep all your valuable data and still being able to get back to a older firmware.

This tutorial only works while apple is still signing 10.1.2. I dont expect this to last more then a day or maybe 2 days, so hurry up if you want any hope to jailbreak your device!

So here's my copy paste from the jailbreak reddit:

Tested and confirmed on a iPhone X! Download the ipsw file of 11.1.2. Then go to itunes and shift hold click the "update" button in itunes instead of upgrade button. I expected errors that i already have the latest firmware, or problems with getting my backup back....But all data is still on the phone! No data is getting put back on the device!

After this, your healthkit data and other stuff will be bugged. We are going to fix that now:

Edit: ALERT FOR THOSE WITH HEALTHKIT TROUBLE: I fixed it by doing as my initial post: then making a icloud backup (so a icloud backup once back on 11.1.2, then restoring the whole firmware through itunes(not upgrade but hold shift> restore) and then putting back that icloud copy. If you go through pc it wont work as i tried 5 times now. But icloud works! Go fast and enjoy!

So following this all including this edit makes your iphone work like it always did.....just with a little bit slower wireless charging ;)

Don't waste your time like I did. Doesn't work. When I attempted to make an iCloud backup with 11.1.2 it said it was unable to complete due to there being a backup with a newer version of iOS already in there. Had to reset, set up as new, update back to 11.2.5, reset again and then restore from the old backup.

Still waiting to find out if I'll be able to recover all of my Health data that was missing prior to restoring.

I believe it won’t work if you don’t hit the shift key and select the ipsw you downloaded. It worked when I did it.

Can you go from ios 10.2.1 directly to 11.1.2, or you have to first go from 10.2.1 to ios 11.2.1 and then downgrade to 11.1.2?

Correct. You have to hold shift when you click "update" otherwise iTunes will tell you you're up to date on whatever version you have. My issue was with Health data. It didn't show up after downgrading.

You can go straight to 11.2.1 by using the method above (hold shift and select the IPSW file you previously saved).

You can go straight to 11.2.1, or were you trying to say 11.1.2?

I mean, can I go from ios 10.2.1 to 11.1.2 without passing first through 11.2.x and then downgrade?

Correct. He can upgrade/downgrade to any firmware currently being signed using the Shift+Update and Apple is currently signing 11.1.2. Nobody knows how long that will last though so it's recommended that it be done ASAP to prevent missing the window.
