Nothing happens when I press the "connect apps" button in the tv app. I have supported apps installed and I've logged into my TV provider in settings under accounts...

Check the setting for the app, see if they show up there -- maybe reboot.

Same for me. Nothing happens when I click on it. Have restarted the phone and signed in and out of home sharing. Nothing works.

And don't get me started on this home button change..

I found that. Thanks.

But changing the default behavior after a year for the most important button is just not a great design decision IMHO. It's called the Home button. Like your phone. Sure I can figure it out, but what about less computer savvy folks?

although, look at the icon on the button, and the TV app icon.

seems the default behavior wasn't ready when the aTV was released.

It shows great promise! But it's clear this is the best we can get and that Apple was unsuccessful in launching their own TV service and this was plan B.

The market just doesn't get along. Netflix doesn't connect in the TV app. Comcast doesn't allow their subscribers to use STARZ on Apple TV, so it won't show up in the TV app for them. HBO doesn't allow their HBOGO app to connect to the TV app, so their TV provider subscribers can't use the TV app for HBO. Amazon Prime and MSNBC won't support Apple TV, but will allow iPhones and iPads to AirPlay so no TV app for them. CBS doesn't allow anyone who is a subscriber from the TV provider access on Apple TV. And on, and on, and on...

This wasn't a surprise. It was talked about in detail and how to change it back for months. After the update did you just go pass the new feature info screen that gave you all the info regarding this?

Get out of the bubble. Most users haven't heard this in detail for months. Most users updated their Apple TV and got a new UI. And in my case, the Connect Apps is doing nothing in this new app of major significance, so much so that you change the function of the primary button on the remote to use it. Then the info screen pops up out of nowhere, and yes it got zoomed right past while I'm trying to figure out why Connect Apps doesn't work on my Apple TV but does on my iPhone, while I'm mashing buttons trying to get Connect Apps to do anything.

Blaming the user is never a winning argument.

We don't all visit the forums every day. Connect Apps didn't work, so I came here. It still doesn't.

After playing around with the TV app for several hours and searching forums over the weekend, I've come to the conclusion that the TV app is not really ready for prime time at this point (IMO). I'm sure it will get there eventually.

You are right and it is too heavily dependent on third party apps. So could take for ever. Anyway, I decided to start using the WatchAid App which supports pretty much everything on it's own. It only supports TV Series so I have been playing with The TV App for Movies and a little bit of TV.

oh Watch Aid does look nice.
I don't use any streaming services like Netflix or Hulu.

would Watch Aid be OK with just using the channel apps?
Can I stop the Netflix or Hulu option from showing as an option and just say if it is available on what I use?

I do not think you can remove an App from the list. However, I recently ask for a different SORT of the list and they replied and said they would add a "Smart Sort" order in the next update which they did along with a lot of other updates (1.4). Just became available. Check out the list of changes. Some things (like donate) need to be setup in the iOS App. But I mainly use the tvOS App.
Example:
WestWorld will show HBO Go and then iTunes and then HBO Now if you have HBO Go installed and not HBO Now. Same for Showtime for shows like Homeland. If neither install it will show iTunes first.

Regarding your question about other Apps. The CW will show first before iTunes if you have it installed. Else, it will show second. I also tested this with the History Channel and the Smart Sort works as expected.

I have found them very responsive to their support email. I have found a missing show (very rare) and they fix it right away. It is very hard to find something they do not support that I watch.

The feature I did not think I would use that much is Up Coming but it is really great. It shows the number of days for shows (and New Seasons) that are a long ways out like House of Cards. Also, really great to see where to watch prior seasons which can be found on Hulu or Amazon or Netflix.

thank you for such an informative reply. I will have to look into this. I have a new 4thGen AppleTV to be unboxed on Sunday. so, trying to figure out the best way to use these newer (to me) apps.
